Youth Activities in February 2008
Thought I'd better send some dates out for your consideration... Had 3 kids this last Tues and they've heard about them but not everybody was in attendance so here goes!

On Saturday, March First we can attend a seminar offered by Youth Specialties. (The website is
www.youthspecialties.com/thecore if you want to take a look around.) There is a break on tuition if we register by Feb 8 and students are less expensive than adults. This years topic is Generation Change, and it's the first year that it is open to the student leaders. ...

Midweek reminder from Pastor Joel 2/6/07
They had come to hear Jesus and be healed of their diseases... And all in the crowd were trying to touch him, for power came out from him and healed all of them.' St Luke 6.18 - 19 We wish it were that easy to be healed, don't we? If only we had Jesus in our midst, we could touch him and be whole again. Well, we don't see Jesus visibly when we come together to worship. But he ...

Midweek reminder from Pastor Joel 1/31/07
'Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man!' St Luke 5.8 Jesus tells his tired and discouraged fishermen-disciples to let down their nets in the Sea of Galilee. There follows a tremendous catch of fish. Amazed and awed, Peter falls on his knees before Jesus, responding with personal self-judgment. Jesus says to Peter, "Don't be afraid." We can be pretty hard on ourselves sometimes. ...

Mid week reminders from Pastor Joel Dec. 14th 2006
'Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near.' Philippians 4.4-5 December can be a brutal month. It's crunch time for Christmas. The many extra things people feel they need to do to get ready for the holiday can crush sensitivity towards others. We get our game face on, and become self absorbed. I like Paul's encouragement: "Let ...

Mid week reminders from Pastor Joel Dec. 5th 2006
'In the fifteenth year of the reign of Emperor Tiberias...the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness.' St Luke 3.1-2 Of all the religions of the world, Christianity is the most rooted in history. Luke, the writer of the 3rd gospel in our New Testament, sees the whole sweep of history as God's plan of salvation. The word of God that came to John the Baptizer comes also to us in the same way--in a specific ...

Hello all!
Hello all!We had a very relaxing youth Tues. Just watched a movie and ate jello. And counted flamingos. (19 birds and black connecters, no legs anywhere...) It was a nice night. This Tues we are decorating the sanctuary Christmas tree, and I have a problem. Today (!) Leo's school sent the announcement that his school program is that night. (nice notice...) Anyway, I'd like to get started earlier than usual (I'll be there at 5) and if one of you parents had wanted to come (as you are all invited!) and stay through to ...

Mid Week Reminders from Pastor Joel November 29 2006
'...when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near...' St Luke 21.31 We pray in the Lord's Prayer, "Thy kingdom come." With the dawning of Advent this Sunday, we once again are hit full force with the temporalness of this world. As caught up as we are in Christmas preparations, this first Sunday in Advent reminds us that there are bigger fish to fry. God's kingdom will come, of that we can be ...

Mid week reminders from Pastor Joel November 6 2006
'Do not be afraid...for thus says the Lord: The jar of meal will not be emptied and the jug of oil will not fail.' 1 Kings 17.13-14 Two poignant stories about widows are included in this coming Sunday's readings from Scripture. Both widows are at the extremes of life: poverty and death. In this sense, they are reminders of what life is like for hundreds of millions of people in our own time. We read ...
