'God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not
fear...'
Psalm
46.1
I saw a bumper sticker recently that really caught
my attention. It said: 'Your fear becomes you.' Any way you read it,
fear can come to dominate people's lives.
In the gospel for this coming Sunday, Jesus says:
'If the Son makes you free, you will be truly free.' Fear is a kind of
slavery. In a world filled with fears, it's good to know: 'God is our
refuge and strength, a very present help in time of
trouble.'
'By the power of the Holy
Spirit, we will utilize all our God-given gifts to welcome and connect all
people in loving relationships with Jesus Christ, each other, and our
community.' (Redeemer's vision statement)
I'm experimenting this week with a larger font size for my Midweek
Reminders, mindful that some of our members have vision difficulties. Let
me know if you find it helpful.
HOLY MACARONI!!!
What an astounding response to the challenge to donate 2,000 boxes of
macaroni and cheese! By last Sunday, the count stood at 3,616, and more
boxes have come in since then. It's very possible that we could top out at
4,000--double our commitment! What's best about this success is that more
families will be fed. Way to go, Redeemerites!
REFORMATION SUNDAY, OCT
29: The ligurgical color is red, and you may want to wear
somethng red, too, on this celebration of the Church in the power of the
gospel. Also, don't forget to turn your clocks BACK one hour
Saturday night...or you'll be really early for worship! Since this is a
5th Sunday of the month, there's an added opportunity for us to do some 'second
mile giving'. You can call it 'catch up Sunday'. A chance to give a
little extra this month to help with Redeemer's mission and
ministry.
ATTENDANCE
goal per Sunday is 100 people. This past Sunday our
attendance was 84. One of the greatest things you can do for yourself is
to commit to weekly worship, where God's love and grace empower us for the week
ahead. We're 'counting' on you!
NEEDED: Two more
offering counters. Can you help us out by becoming part of the
regular rotation in counting offering?
More from Psalm 46: 'He
makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow, and shatters the
spear; he burns the shields with fire.'
A world at peace--pray for it, work for it. God wills
it.
